Here’s what a few of Team USA’s cyclists had to say about today’s performances and the honor in serving their country:

RYAN PINNEY

“Any chance we get to ride the bike is a privilege and a blessing for me,” Pinney said. “And for me to come back here and serve my country in a different capacity is always just an absolute pleasure.”

“There’s something about the pride and the honor that I get,” Pinney said about the opportunity to represent Team USA. “It’s like no other feeling to put the uniform on in some capacity. Before it was with the Air Force and I miss it, but to put the Stars and Stripes on for the United States — I feel like I get to represent and honor my country as best as I can. I mean, we’re the best country in the world for a reason.”

“It’s always emotional hearing the national anthem and being able to place on the top step,” Pinney said after his medal ceremony. “Hearing that national anthem always makes you want to stop and think about those that served before you.”

BRANDON LYONS

“It’s an honor,” Lyons said about competing for the U.S. “I went to my first Games experience in Lima in 2019. Just to represent Team USA and have the stars and stripes on your back is amazing. So to come back four years later and to be on the podium representing Team USA in another country is just awesome to put para cycling on the map.”

RUTH ROLLMAN

“I’m ecstatic. I mean it’s just such an honor to be here,” Rollman said about her performance Sunday. “I worked really hard to come here and compete and to get results is extra sweet. This is a great way to end the season and go into 2024 so I’m extra proud of my bronze medal.”

“Thank you to Team USA for supporting me,” Rollman said. “They’ve invested in me as an athlete and I feel like I’m giving the returns that are appropriate so I want to continue to be on Team USA.”

KATE BRIM

“It’s just about putting in the effort and making sure I make the turns as smartly as possible and just doing the best that I can,” Brim said when asked to break down her race. “In the time trials I always make sure I’m treating the moto-car in front of us as the mouse that I’m chasing. Just consistently chasing the mouse. And yeah, just a beautiful performance from everyone.”

“It’s been an absolute honor to be able to represent USA and I really hope I continue to represent USA,” Brim said. “Para cycling was a very big eye-opener for me and just what I’m personally capable of and it also helped show me what others can be capable of as well.”

DALE CONNORS

“To end up second, it may as well be a gold medal for me,” Connors said after his showing Sunday.

“It’s always an honor to stand on the podium, see the flag and represent this country,” Connors said. “It’s hard to explain. It’s a privilege, it takes a lot of sacrifice and it’s worth every single second.”

“The honor is incredible, the continuation of serving the country,” Connors said, comparing the different ways he’s helped represent the U.S. “Putting on this uniform, it feels different but the same. All eyes are always on us as Team USA in the world and just representing this flag to the world is a dream come true.”
