“I definitely have to try my best to bring something back. Especially that gold medal,” said Fabian Romo, who had 11 points in the U.S. victory.

In archery, the U.S. found itself at the top of the podium thanks to a strong performance from U.S. Army veteran Jason Tabansky in the men’s individual W1 elimination tournament. In the finals, the Texan defeated China’s Han Guifei by a score of 134-131.

“I felt a purpose through every match that I was supposed to be here and that I was supposed to be here to share this with everybody,” said Tabansky. “This is not just for me, it’s for everybody out there, everybody in my country.”

Tabansky wasn’t the only archer from the U.S. to win a gold medal. Matt Stutzman edged China’s Xinliang Ai 149-147 in the men’s individual compound open gold medal match. It’s Stutzman’s first gold medal in the event in his fourth Paralympics.
