BOCHUM, GERMANY — Team USA capped its historic run at the 2025 FISU World University Games with an 11–3 win over Brazil on Sunday afternoon to claim the bronze medal in women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball. The Americans led from the opening seconds and never allowed Brazil to close the gap, fueled by a dominant rebounding effort and stifling half-court defense.

“I’m proud,” said Hannah Exline after the win. “I’m proud that our team podiumed, it being our first time and being a historical event, being the first time that adaptive wheelchair basketball has been included in the World University Games. I’m very proud. I’m happy I played with my team and we battled it out.”

Exline finished with 4 points, 2 rebounds, and a +8 rating to lead all players. She hit two field goals, including a one-pointer off an assist from Marlee Wagstaff that helped push the lead to 8–3. Later, she added a free throw with 30 seconds left, then assisted Glascoe on the final basket of the game.

Anesia Glascoe led the early charge, scoring 5 points and grabbing 9 rebounds—including 6 offensive boards. She scored three times between the 1:55 and 1:05 marks to extend the lead and added two assists. Glascoe was involved in seven of USA’s 11 points, either scoring or assisting.

Team USA led 3–0 early and maintained at least a two-point cushion the rest of the way. Brazil never tied the score, never led, and never found a rhythm offensively. They managed just 2 field goals on 13 attempts and turned the ball over seven times.

“We started off strong. That was good momentum,” Exline reflected. “Germany hit us hard. We were able to collect ourselves. Unfortunately, we fell short. With Spain, we also fell short, but we learned a lot about each other. Coming into the semis against Germany, we were trying our best and it just didn’t go our way, but we finished out strong and I can be proud for our team for that.”

The bronze medal game followed a difficult tournament stretch for the Americans. After opening with a dominant 19–1 win over Brazil in pool play, they dropped back-to-back group games to Germany and Spain, then fell again to Spain in the semifinal. Sunday’s rematch against Brazil offered a final opportunity to close on a high note, and they delivered.

Wagstaff and Elizabeth Becker each added 2 points. Wagstaff also notched 2 assists and 2 rebounds in just under six minutes of action. Becker went a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line and grabbed one rebound in just over four minutes.

As time expired, the emotion was still fresh.

“I’m still jittery from all the hype,” Exline said. “Obviously, just coming from the game, still a little sweaty, but excited. Hopeful for the future.”

The Americans committed no turnovers and held Brazil without an offensive rebound. Their largest scoring run—a 5–0 burst from 1:55 to 0:30—closed the game and sealed the win.

Final score: USA 11, Brazil 3.
